About

I have worked as a photographer since leaving college in 2000 with a BA (HONS) in Photography. I received my first experiences of photography when my art teacher brought to school a 35mm camera and assigned my class to take some photos. I was hooked from the first time an actual image ‘magically’ appeared before me in the darkroom.

This is my second major solo exhibition and is a culmination of many months work. I wanted to move on from my first exhibition by attempting new formats and methods of producing the spectacle and beauty of the North Norfolk Coast. I’ve always enjoyed the challenge of shooting on film as opposed to digital photography, and I experimented with a large format five by four inch camera, medium format and 35mm before I came across a medium format camera that produced panoramic images on 120 film. The Fuji GX617 camera is a beautiful piece of design and really makes you think hard about the image you want to create. The photographs it yields are stunning – well worth the time and expense. It only gives you four frames on a roll of film so you have to make sure you get it right!

The collection of images ranges from Snettisham to Cley-next-the-sea. All the places were visited on numerous occasions, waiting for the right light and capturing that perfect moment when all the elements combine. Often you would go out with one idea in mind and end up photographing something completely different. The Norfolk coast is close to my heart and I feel very lucky live in such an area. I enjoy the feeling of isolation and the inherent beauty of the coast, the constant change in weather and the sense of being part of an ever-changing landscape. There is no better feeling than being out along the North Norfolk coast. It never ceases to amaze me how a place can change from day to day and never looks the same. This is the beauty of photography for me since it enables the photographer to capture a fleeting moment in time.

Once the films have been processed they are scanned using a drum scanner before being produced as large format giclee prints onto a fine quality imported American watercolour paper. The images are open editions, either presented ready to frame in a white mount or framed in complimentary natural oak, hand signed by the photographer.
